What about size after penile implant surgery?
Understandably so, the size of the penis after a penile implant is a major concern for most penile implant patients. Dr. Eid is committed to bringing each one of his patients the satisfaction they are looking for when they come to the office to discuss penile implantation.
There is nothing better than a normal erection, and while a penile prosthesis produces very firm and satisfying results, the differences from physiological erections should be considered. Before every penile implant procedure, Dr. Eid meets with every patient to carefully prepare them for penile implant surgery by explaining the results and ensuring appropriate expectations.
Dr. Eid firmly believes that as a penile implant specialist, it is his highest-ranking responsibility to care for, be available to, and to prepare the patient, from pre-operative communication to implantation to aftercare. The proper counseling before surgery ensures that a patient stays focused on the goal of the implantation, maintains realistic expectations, and takes proper care during recovery to guarantee optimal results.
Reasons for changes in penis size
Penis shrinkage can be caused by erectile dysfunction in men suffering from Peyronie’s disease, in patients with diabetes, and especially in men that have had prostate cancer surgery that caused nerve injury.
For patients to have a realistic expectation of how their implant will function and how big their penis will be after implantation, Dr. Eid will have the patient visit his office before the procedure. During this visit, Dr. Eid will perform an in-office penile injection test, where he will measure and document the length of the injection-induced erection, and show the patient the expected size of the penis after implantation.
Penis size with an Internal Penile Pump
The size of a flaccid and erect penis with an implant depends on several factors. When flaccid, a penis with an implant will appear longer and wider as the cylinders prevent it from fully retracting. There are some surgeons that will promise unrealistic results, such as length enhancement. In no way will a penile implant enhance the size of the penis.
Dr. Eid encourages patients to focus on the goal of having a penile implant, which is sexual function. Realistically, after a device implantation, a patient will notice differences in the penis, but they will have attained their goal of engaging in sexual activity again.
Doctor’s experience in penile surgery will make the difference
Patients that have reported a decrease in penis size after an implant more than likely had an inexperienced penile surgeon. With little experience, these surgeons are fearful of making the cylinders too long and causing erosion of the distal tip into the urethral meatus, and will undersize the implant. Or pre-operative patients expectations were not appropriately managed. Unlike those surgeons, Dr. Eid will implement techniques that provide realistic expectations and optimal results to patients.
Dr. Eid remains dedicated to his patients throughout the procedure and throughout recovery as well. To ensure appropriate healing and prevent penile shortening, post-operative care is critical. If the implant cylinders are not inflated within the first two months, the retracted size becomes the permanent size of the erect penis. Dr. Eid routinely brings patients back to the office to cycle the device within the first four to eight weeks after surgery. Inexperienced doctors allow the patient to heal after a penile implant without having them inflate and deflate the device, which causes the penis to heal over deflated and retracted cylinders, causing decreased inflated length.
The most important step in the process when considering penile implant surgery, is finding the most experienced surgeon, one that you know you can trust. Dr. Eid has a high success rate and satisfaction rate and will help you maintain realistic expectations, ensure that you are prepared for life after a penile implant, and is backed by the experience to use the best techniques for your implantation to bring you the best results you can imagine.

Patient Concerns
Question: I live in Missouri & found no one does this procedure locally. So here I am reaching out to you. I AM VERY interested in having my penis longer & thicker. I’ve read your information, which has lifted my spirit & hopes of feeling like a normal man. The detaching of the suspensory ligament as well as pubic liposuction both I feel is needed for me. I read that fat can be taken from the person’s body & added that to make it thicker & longer. It really caught my eye with the implants. It was a little confusing on how it works. I am looking to go from an average 6 or 7 inches to 10 or 11 inches. I’m sure the pubic liposuction will help greatly. So where do I start as far as insurance (will insurance cover this), time frame, visits… etc? Answer: Thanks for your inquiry and sharing all your information with me. The inflatable penile implant was invented in 1973 and has undergone much advancement. The implant was never designed as an instrument to lengthen the penis however and the procedure of cutting the suspensory ligament will not increase the length of the penis either. Fat injections will make the penis look fatter but the fat will not be distributed evenly around the shaft of the penis giving it a “lumpy bumpy” appearance. The procedures you mention rarely give a satisfactory outcome and should be avoided.
