Collagen Gel Injections

Collagen gel injection should not be used in patients who have:

  • Severe allergies and a history of anaphylaxis
  •  A history of allergies to gram-positive bacterial proteins
  •  Allergies to lidocaine

Collagen gel injection should be used with caution in patients:

  • Using immunosuppressive therapy, or therapy used to decrease the body’s immune response, as there may be an increased risk of infection
  •  With a history of excessive scarring (hypertrophic scarring or keloid formations) and pigment disorders as the results have not been studied

How it Works

Using safe and effective collagen injections, Dr. Eid adds volume to the glans creating a more natural appearance and building firmness. The collagen gel injection is a cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA), the very same collagen product used to eliminate lines and wrinkles in facial cosmetic procedures.Applying the same principles, Dr. Eid uses a series of strategically placed injections to plump the area and create a soft, but firm cushion between the implant tip and the glans. The smooth consistency gel provides great flexibility in placement and lends itself to a very natural look and feel.Hyaluronic acid collagen gel is FDA-approved for use on the face. While application to other areas of the body is considered “off-label,” collagen is a naturally occurring substance and the product is very safe. What to Expect

Men who have a penile prosthesis and who wish to undergo glans penis bulking and rejuvenation will have a brief consultation with Dr. Eid to discuss concerns and confirm their candidacy for the treatment. Dr. Eid will assess your decrease in glans volume and the depth of the wrinkles and folds to determine treatment needs.Collagen injection results are instant with very little recovery time. Men can easily incorporate the appointment into their daily schedule without taking time off from work.Prior to treatment, men are instructed to avoid medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Warfarin, Coumadin, Plavix, Pradaxa, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) for at least a week. No other preparation is needed.During the brief 15-30 minute procedure, Dr. Eid will apply a topical numbing agent to the penis. The collagen injection contains lidocaine, as well, to improve comfort during treatment. Using a very small needle, Dr. Eid gently injects the collagen under the glans in a series of 4-8 applications. He may then massage the collagen into place to ensure smooth, even placement.The subtle, but pleasing results of the procedure are evident immediately. Dr. Eid’s patients report very positive, lasting results and improvements in both the look and feel of the penis.Collagen injections are not permanent and touch-up injections may be needed. Patients are likely to experience diminished results after one year, at which point further injection may be needed to maintain results.

Recovery Information

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours

  • Some men may experience minor discomfort and swelling that is easily managed by icing the affected area
